'Rosslyn Blood' is fast, funny and may have more truth in it than anyone would like to think. It cunningly links modern politics and science in Scotland to the country's ancient legends.
Without giving too much away, here are some of the characters you'll meet in 'Rosslyn Blood'.
Sinclair Wallace, a twenty-something public relations executive, thinks everything is going all right. He's succeeded in bedding the most attractive and intelligent girl yet, and things are looking up at work. But it can't last - Becky thinks he's involved in a corrupt business and old schoolfriend Hugh McIsaac has sent a strange commission for work on behalf of 'The Preceptory of St John'. Things are about to start getting weird, and Sinclair would turn to his loving family for support, if he had one.
Investigative journalist Becky Cowan is Scottish, Jewish, and likes her sex a little kinky. She likes Sinclair, but other priorities are calling her, not least the pull between her two national identities which is making her re-evaluate her life.
Brilliant eccentric Hugh McIsaac has been pursuing solitary studies into the occult ever since he dropped out of Cambridge University . He's come back to Scotland after a family bereavement, but his work as night-watchman for a scrapyard can't explain his sudden interest in Sinclair's work.
Chad Morton has returned from California to his family's Scottish roots. He's happy to tell anyone that he can clone any historical figure if someone can give him a tissue sample, and he's set up a factory to produce cloned organs for transplant at the Roslin biotechnology park, beside where Dolly the Sheep was born and a stone's throw from Rosslyn Chapel.
What ties them all together, and why is Hugh so keen to take Sinclair to Rosslyn Chapel?
'Rosslyn Blood' benefits from the author's close association with Scotland and its legends. Its sense of place and its understanding of modern Scotland brings a reality to the narrative.
